good morning Reader,

i know i know, you're getting this the day after friday.

i actually wrote this last night at like 1:30 am bc i didn't want to rush n put out something crappy.

i'll be honest though, i was thinking about speed running an email to make it in time, but i realized it wasn't worth putting out something trash.

that's not what i do.

so i saved my sanity and paced this out.

which actually reminds me of something major that i learned on the retreat last weekend, that i think you can benefit from.

a couple nights when we were there, we had these whiteboard sessions.

kj had some points listed on the board, and he asked us which ones we wanted him to talk about.

two words on there caught my attention right away:

'mental currency'.

had no idea what it was, but for some reason i needed to know.

i immediately understood why once he started explaining it, because my mindset started to shift in real time.

lemme break it down for you.

essentially, you have a certain amount of space in your mind that you can delegate to different tasks.

it's very limited.

and there's only so much you can spend before things start to get messy.

this explains why you might feel extremely stressed when you have a lot going on in your life.

or if you have trouble concentrating on a task in front of you while knowing you have a million other things that need to get done.

it's not the fact that you didn't get enough sleep the night before (although that's definitely a huge variable)…

you're just flat broke, completely cleaned out of your own mental currency.

i know because i was experiencing exactly this before i got to the retreat.

for some context, i was venturing into three different territories:

  • working with a client who's in a terrible niche
  • doing outreach to get more clients
  • AND practicing to be an appt setter

i was doing all these things, and felt more stressed than ever.

i just couldn't figure out why.

until i heard kj describe my exact situation, and it all clicked.

i realized that in order to truly become successful, you have to focus on the things that matter.

the biggest levers that will move you toward your goals and the person you want to become.

i've been told this before, but it only truly hit me once i experienced it for myself.

that night i concluded it was in my own best interest to focus on one thing and just get really freaking good at it.

so i got back home and started to think about my goals and what needs to be done to achieve them.

the aim right now is to hit 5k/month with a valuable skill.

and out of the things i was currently doing, i ended up choosing appt setting because i feel it'll get me there most efficiently.

once i figured that out, i started shaving off everything else.

  • he doesn't know it yet, but i'm going to drop my current client.
  • i stopped outreaching.
  • and i've decided to go all in on becoming the nastiest appt setter who ever walked the planet earth.

one skill, one focus, one goal.

as soon as i got clarity on this…

it was like 1,000 pounds were lifted off my shoulders.

and now i know why—it's because i got my mental currency back.

and man, does it feel amazing.

overall i learned a huge lesson from all this:

life is constantly changing, and sometimes obstacles will get placed in your path that will try to swipe you of your mental currency.

but the way to keep moving forward is by being highly selective with what you're willing to spend it on.

and then going all in on whatever you chose.

when you become conscious of this, you'll hit your goals 10x faster.

i can't exactly prove this at the moment, but i know for a FACT it's true and i will eventually do so.

i just got that conviction baby.

hope you got something out of this tho, protect your mind Reader.

peace and love,

gabe
